Solar Energy & BASIX

Solar Energy is a strong contributor to the BASIX performance of successful low energy homes

The NSW Government introduced the state based BASIX scheme in 2004 to assist renovators, builders and home buyers to build and purchase homes with excellent thermal characteristics and low long term energy consumption levels. The initial goal for Greenhouse Gas reductions was a 25% reduction in energy consumption when compared to the average home – it has now been increased to 40 percent.

Fortunately, reductions in Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHGE) result in commensurate savings on electricity and heating costs.  The ongoing reduction in running costs far outweighs the cost of conducting the assessment – for this reason it has been maintained by governments of all political and environmental persuasions.

Getting Started

The BASIX program has been carefully designed to provide information everyday language and easy to access tools for calculating the performance of homes and impacts of different appliances & design choices. To speed your research, we have here on our website a brochure introducing BASIX and a Sample BASIX Certificate. You can also visit the NSW Government BASIX website.

Home Solar Electricity Generation Systems have become a popular part of the BASIX energy solution.

The most common size of system selected to meet basix requirements is a 1kW Solar generation system. The Greenforce Energy system design is comprised of 1kW inverter (SMA SB1200) with six panels (6 x BP Solar 4190T), but many households elect to put in a larger system.
