Solar switch
A solarswitch, sometimes called a breaker or isolator, is used to interrupt (‘break’) as circuit on the DC side of the system. Formally, it is known in Australia as the DC Isolator or the PV Array Main Switch.
The DC side of the system is the cable running from the solar panels to the solar inverter. Sometimes, there are DC isolators on both the rooftop and next to the inverter.
Because DC is much hard to isolate than AC electricity (it’s straight-line current waveform never goes through ‘zero’), it is possible to cause arcs if AC switches or poor quality breakers are used.
We recommend Moeller and ABB non polarised breakers.
